The Works of Job

"Job ... was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil" (Job 1:1). Job spoke about his works in chapters 29 and 31. The works of Job illustrate Scripture passages that teach about what is right in the eyes of the Lord.

(Job 29:12) ... I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.
(Job 29:13) The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

(Jms 1:27) Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

The word translated "religion" is also translated "worship" in Col 2:18. In lexicons, the primary meanings of the word are "observance, religious worship".

(Job 29:15) I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.
(Job 29:16) I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.
(Job 29:17) And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.

(Job 31:16) If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;
(Job 31:17) Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

(Job 31:19) If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;
(Job 31:20) If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

(Eph 4:28) ... let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

(Jms 2:15) If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
(Jms 2:16) And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

(1Jn 3:18) My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

(Job 31:31)^MKJV if the men of my camp did not say, Who can find one who has not been satisfied with his meat?
(Job 31:32) The stranger did not sleep in the street, for I opened my doors to the traveler.

(Heb 13:2) Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

(1Pt 4:9) Use hospitality one to another without grudging.

(Job 31:13) If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;
(Job 31:14) What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?
(Job 31:15) Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

(Col 4:1) Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.

(Eph 6:9)^EMTV And masters, do the same things towards them, giving up threatening, knowing that your own Master is in heaven, and there is no partiality with Him.

In Eph 6:9 "the same" refers to the preceding verses that deal with those who serve masters, who are to work "as unto Christ" as "servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men" (Eph 6:5-7).

(Job 31:1) I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

(Mt 5:27) Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
(Mt 5:28) But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

(Php 4:8) ... whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

(Eph 5:3)^EMTV But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;

(Job 31:24) If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;
(Job 31:25) If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;

(Mk 10:24) And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

(Lk 12:15) And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

(1Ti 6:17) Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
(1Ti 6:18) That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

(Job 31:29) If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:
(Job 31:30) Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

(Lk 6:27) But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
(Lk 6:28) Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

(Job 31:33) If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom ...

(1Jn 1:9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
